About GainesvilleEvents.com
GainesvilleEvents.com is a community calendar for Gainesville, Florida and Alachua County. It automatically gathers events from local sources — the tourism bureau, the public library, museums, and university programs — normalizes them into one place, and links every listing back to where it came from.
How it works
A few times a day, an automated pipeline reads each source's public feed, cleans up the data, removes duplicates, and rebuilds this site. There's no database and no login — just a fast, static calendar. You can see exactly how each source is doing on the status page.
Subscribe
Add the whole calendar to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook: subscribe to the iCal feed.
Suggest a source or event
Know a Gainesville-area calendar we should include? This site works automatically — every few hours, a script reads a machine-readable event feed from each source and rebuilds the calendar. There's no manual data entry, which is how thousands of events stay current with no staff. That means the bar isn't "do you have events" — it's "does your site publish them in a format a script can read."
You likely qualify if your site has:
- A public iCalendar (.ics) subscribe or export link — look for a "Subscribe," "Export," or "iCal" button, or a URL ending in .ics.
- A JSON events API, if your site runs on a platform that has one (WordPress with the "The Events Calendar" plugin, Communico, Spektrix, Showpass, or similar).
- Structured event data (schema.org) embedded on your event pages.
What doesn't work on its own: a Facebook Events page, an Eventbrite listing, or a page of hand-typed event text with no calendar plugin behind it — there's no data there for a script to read, and Facebook/Eventbrite's terms don't allow pulling listings out automatically. Sites like these can still get a link on the sources directory if you're a real, local organization that's actually hosting events.
Don't have a feed yet? If your site runs WordPress, the free The Events Calendar plugin will generate one automatically — several sources already on this calendar use exactly that.

Corrections
Event details come straight from the source listed on each event. If something's wrong, the "View on…" link on the event page goes to the organizer, who can update it at the source.
